    Sarawak Cultural Village

The networking tour will provide delegates with an opportunity to meet and network with other Congress participants.

The pre-Congress networking tour takes place in Sarawak Cultural village which is 45mins drive outside of Kuching. Participants are given the opportunity to fully experience the local culture. They are taken on an expedition around Longhouses where they will interact with representatives of local communities before being given the choice of a jungle trek or learning more about traditional activities in Sarawak. The day concludes with a cultural performance by award-winning dancers and musicians.

Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Council General Meeting

    (Hilton Hotel)

This first General Meeting of the Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Council represents a milestone in the evolution of the Protocol:  following eighteen months work by the Transitional Governance Committee to bring together the Chambers provided for in the Council charter, all the Council chambers are now populated and elections for chamber chairs will have taken place before this meeting.

The meeting itself is open to all chambers members and interested parties, and will include a presentation by the TGC of work over the period since the Protocol was formally adopted, as well as a formal handover of responsibilities to the first elected Governance Committee of the Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Council.

Bringing together a select group of hydropower representitives and stakeholders, nominated representitives of the Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Council will hold an election for the Chair of the Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Governance Committee. The Committee is tasked to take forward the work of the Transitional Governance Committee in promoting and advancing the Protocol.

    IHA Consultative Council

    By invitation only

With the support of Bloomberg New Energy Finance

This special event brings together leading persons invited from government, business, finance and civil society from around the world on a biannual basis to strategically review the challenges the hydropower sector faces and the work IHA is undertaking to meet them. The IHA Consultative Council culminates in a set of recommendations presented to the Board of the Association on the occasion of its inaugural meeting later in the year.

Inspired by the recommendations of previous Consultative Council meetings, major milestones under IHA's work programme have been; the publication of the GHG Measurement Guidelines for Freshwater Reservoirs (August 2010), the completion of the Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Forum’s work (September 2010) and the subsequent launch of the Hydropower Sustainability Protocol (June 2011).

    IHA Congress Official Opening

Hosted by the Government of Sarawak

An extraordinary way to begin the Congress. The Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN), hosted in the most iconic building of Kuching, opens its doors to participants of the IHA World Congress for an evening that will showcase the cultural and culinary diversity of Sarawak.

The star-shaped DUN building, with its distinctive "payung" (umbrella) roof, overlooks the banks of the Sarawak River and is located in close proximity to the Astana, the official residence of the Governor of Sarawak, and Fort Margherita, a historical landmark built by the Sarawak Rajah.

Please note: Participants will depart from the Hilton Hotel from 18:30. Please ensure that you bring your official invitation to the Opening Banquet.
