Transport and Logistics
Coaches leave the Hilton Kuching hotel for the Congress venue at 08:15 sharp on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
On Thursday evening, coaches will depart from both the Congress venue and the Hilton Kuching at 17:15 to take you to the evening event at the Damai Puri beach resort.
Please ensure that you travel with your official Congress badge and your passport to gain access to the Congress venue

This workshop is organised by the International Hydropower Association (IHA), in cooperation with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the World Bank, and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
Designed for experts and decision-makers involved in hydropower projects with an international dimension, this event is an opportunity to share experience on the role that hydropower can play in uplifting economic development in a region. With participants from development banks, power pools and river basin organisations.

GHG and Freshwater Reservoirs: What is the state of the art?

This meeting is intended to be an informal side event targeted at those with an interest in learning the state of the art on the topic of greenhouse gas (GHG) fluxes associated with freshwater reservoirs. The discussion will include an update on GHG measurement campaigns around the world, as well as an update on on-going research projects and Association findings in this area.

Net GHG Emissions Workshop

This meeting is a working session intended for members of the GHG Status of Freshwater Reservoirs Project expert and peer review groups and others with detailed technical knowledge related to the GHG status of freshwater reservoirs. The session will present a draft concept of 'net GHG emissions' for discussion, with the aim to refine it for publication as a GHG Project document.

Introduction to the Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Protocol

A brief, interactive introduction to the Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Protocol for individuals with no previous exposure to the approach. The session will provide an overview of the Protocol before getting attendees to participate in a quick and basic scoring exercise. This will be followed by information about how to get involved in governance, sustainability partnerships, training and assessor accreditation.

This meeting will be an opportunity to bring Sustainability Partners and Accredited Assessors together to discuss their experiences using the Hydropower Sustainability Assessment Protocol and its added-value.

Briefing on Resettlement

A representative of Song Bung 4 Hydropower Project Management Board together with The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will present a case study of the Song Bung 4 hydropower project in Vietnam, focusing on how they have been working closely with the local authorities and the local community to ensure that no affected persons are worse off than the conditions prior to the project. Although the resettlement is still in progress, a representative of SB4HPMB will share some of the good safeguards practices being applied in Song Bung 4 HPP.

Operationalizing Multi-purpose hydropower

The importance of water infrastructure serving multiple objectives is receiving increasing attention, with climate change helping to focus attention on this issue. Participants will discuss ideas and innovative concepts related to the systematic operationalization of the competing demands of hydropower in the context of climate change.
